Types of Mutual Fund ?

There are many Types of Mutual Funds in the market, but most popular of them are the following Four types of Mutual funds.

  • Equity Funds (Stocks Investments) : Stock funds, also called equity funds usually invest in companies traded in stock exchanges. They are the most volatile sometimes rising and falling sharply over a short period. They generate good returns over a longer time frame.
  • Bonds (Fixed-income funds) : Bond funds, also known as fixed income, invest in corporate and government debt with the purpose of providing a stable returns from this funds.
  • Money Market Funds (Short-term debt) : Money market funds have relatively low risks, compared with other mutual funds and most other investments. The returns of this funds are also low even when compared with the inflation in the economy.
  • Balanced or hybrid funds (Both stocks and bonds) : This type of fund invests in both equity and bonds. Investor can get decent returns and the risk level is also less comparing with equity funds.


What is NAV in Mutual Fund ?

The Mutual fund NAV means "Net Asset value". According to SEBI guide line NAV of Mutual fund calculating by the income/profits generated from this collective investment is distributed proportionately amongst the investors after deducting certain expenses. Each investor owns units, which represent a portion of the holdings of the fund called "Net Asset Value or NAV".

What is the Meaning of ELSS Mutual Fund ?

ELSS is a short form of Equity Linked Savings Scheme. ELSS mutual fund is close ended fund and Minimum lock-in period of this is three years. Investor can not withdraw the fund / money, and has to hold his investments till completion of three years. After the lock-in ends, of three years the scheme turns into an open-ended scheme and the funds are allowed to be withdrawn.

The ELSS mutual fund also give the Tax benefits under the new Section 80C of Income Tax Act 1961. Every year you can save your tax by investing every year in ELSS. We advised investors to remain invested in this funds for a longer duration of 10-15 years to achieved your financial goals.

What is NFO in Mutual Fund Investments ?

The full form of NFO is "NEW FUND OFFER". A New fund offer (NFO) the opportunity to subscribe to the new mutual funds scheme offered by a Mutual Fund House / Investment company. Normally a new fund is launched, which allows the company to raise capital for purchasing securities. NFOs usually specify a minimum subscription amount for the investors. It may range from as low as Rs 500 to Rs 5,000. This opportunity is available only for a limited period and the normal price .ie. NAV is Rs 10/-. Generally, investors get better profits if they invest during the New Fund Offer, as when the Mutual fund get listed, it lists at higher price.
